North Circular Road
This two-storey house forms part of a red-brick terrace located off the North Circular Road. The house was in need of refurbishment when the clients approached us. The existing kitchen and dining areas located in an extension to the rear were separated by a large chimney, by removing the chimney and adding a small extension we created a larger kitchen and dining area that opened-up to the garden. The original brick from the chimney was salvaged and reused in the new extension.
To protect the quality of light to the main house we incorporated a courtyard between the extension and the house. As both clients are keen gardeners this courtyard was used to bring planting into the heart of the home. A mirrored storage wall placed beside the courtyard reflects both planting and light back into the extension.
A rooflight situated above the dining area combined with screen fins ensure the extension is subtly but directly lit at all times of the day to give a light airy feel throughout.
